Talking about rights

Talking about rights explores challenges and openings for advocates communicating about rights – human and legal. It forms part of a broader project conducted by FrameWorks UK in partnership with the Law Society of England and Wales to identify and share the most effective ways to communicate about the rule of law and access to justice in order to build public understanding and support.

This brief is an addition to Talking about the rule of law and access to justice. It explores current discourse and public thinking about rights in England and Wales to answer three questions:

  1. What does existing research tell us about the challenges faced by advocates communicating about rights?
  2. How should FrameWorks’ research on the rule of law and access to justice be applied to communications about rights?
  3. What are the gaps in existing research on rights communications – and are there promising framing strategies that warrant future research?

It joins an evolving body of work on rights communication across the fields of law, justice and human rights – and aims to strengthen and support this vital work.
