Framing numbers, statistics and the economy to talk about homes

Webinar recording

This webinar, about framing numbers, statistics and the economy, was originally broadcast in October 2024 as part of our Talking about Homes series with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Nationwide Foundation.

Statistics and numbers can be useful for supporting our communications, but they can’t tell a story by itself. There are many numbers – such as homelessness data, housing benefit costs, percentage price rises – that we use to try to convince the public of why we need changes to our housing system. Yet no matter how compelling a statistic might seem to us, it’s unlikely to change hearts and minds when left adrift and unframed. Or worse, it could be misinterpreted and end up telling a different story about homes entirely.

This webinar provides insights and tips to help you:

  • understand why framing data makes a difference to your communications
  • hone your skills – with practical guidance and examples, so you can use numbers to make the right impact
  • decide if, when and how to make the economic case for changes to our housing system

It will benefit anyone who writes and talks about the importance of improving and reforming housing in the UK and who uses numbers and statistics in their communications.
