Briefing

It takes a village: Talking about adversity and trauma in early childhood

This briefing explores how the Scottish public think about adversity and trauma in early childhood, and identifies the most effective ways to communicate about these concepts to build understanding and support.

It builds on our work – in partnership with Each and Every Child – to challenge and change the conversation about children and young people in Scotland. In particular, to build understanding of, and support for, the trauma-informed practice that all children need.

Through four recommendations, it helps communicators and practitioners tell a new story – one that is grounded in our shared responsibility towards children, one that explains the impact of adversity in early childhood, and one that shows recovery and resilience are possible.
